Questioning
This week I worked on improving my questioning technique. I have always thought that I was strong in this area, but I decided to introduce some of the ideas from the Asking Better Questions book into my current teaching style. Two areas that I decided to focus on were striving for higher-order thinking and adjusting my wait time. These techniques, along with the skills I already used on a regular basis, proved to add to the lessons that were being taught. I was able to give the students ample time to consider the higher-order thinking questions, and they were more successful at providing more in-depth answers than before. I want to continue to incorporate the techniques found in this book, as well as the other books we are using, to enhance my lessons, and take my teaching to the next level.
